James Madison University Libraries invites applications for the Educational Technology Instructor position. This position is located with the Innovation Services Division of JMU Libraries, reports to the Head of Educational Technology and facilitates general and customized training events for JMU faculty, staff and students. The successful candidate will develop, implement, and deliver instruction programs for students, faculty and staff in the creation of media using a variety of instructional techniques.
The successful candidate responsibilities include:
• Develop, implement, and deliver instruction programs for students, faculty and staff in the creation of media using a variety of instructional techniques.
• Evaluate and assess effectiveness of instruction and modify curriculum as necessary.
• Consult with faculty members to create customized lessons to meet class needs.
• Collaborate with colleagues to provide oversight, leadership and supervision of the peer-led instruction program.
• Develop and maintain support materials to be used for reference after instruction.
• Collaborate with Libraries and departmental partners on campus to plan, coordinate, develop, implement and evaluate programs.
Demonstrated experience and ability in teaching adults, preferably in a higher education environment. Demonstrated ability to quickly learn a variety of web based and client-installed programs used for creating websites; editing images, video, and other multimedia; collaborating online with other users; and instructing in a technology-rich classroom. Demonstrated ability to quickly learn a variety of maker tools used for 3D modeling; 3D printing; vinyl cutters; Arduino; Raspberry Pi; virtual reality; and other tools used for additive and subtractive manufacturing purposes in a makerspace. Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and effectively in a Mac and PC environment (Mac preferred) and ability to operate various peripherals such as microphones and digital cameras. Experience with Canvas, Adobe Creative Cloud Software and Services, Microsoft Office applications, iLife applications. Demonstrated ability to create effective training outlines and materials; communicate with customers, coworkers and students in a professional and customer service oriented manner; transfer learning in a training event; work in an environment that occasionally requires flexibility in schedule; meet deadlines; and work independently and in a team environment.
